76ers Sign Joel Embiid to Large Extension

31 games can get you a lot of money in the NBA these days.

The Philadelphia 76ers have signed star center Joel Embiid to a 5 year $148 million dollar contract extension, locking Embiid in as the face of the 76ers franchise.

In a tweet from Zach Lowe, the deal has been described as, "perhaps the most complex" in NBA history. Adrian Wojnarowski expanded on this, noting incentives based on whether or not Embiid makes it on to All-NBA teams or wins the MVP award, and before we start making, "Trust the Healing Process jokes," ESPN notes via league sources that, "the deal will include some salary-cap protection for the 76ers should Embiid suffer injury that causes him to miss significant playing time."

Although Joel Embiid only played 31 games so far in his 3 year NBA career, he was absolutely outstanding in his short time on the court, averaging 20.2 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting, to go along with 7.8 rebounds in just over 25 minutes per game. The extension is indicative that the Sixers front office is banking on his continued success and health, along with their other young players like Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons.
