Ā The Norse were in for a battle tonight in Horizon League play vs a Youngstown St team that came into BB&T Arena on a six game win streak. The Penguins fought to the end of the game surviving after losing their best player Darius Quisenberry getting strong contributions from additional players including Jelani Simmons and Garrett Covington.
The Norse on the other hand got their usual big game from star player Drew McDonald who scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds in tonight's game including going 12-12 from the free throw line. McDonald also became the schools all time leading free throw scorer in tonight's game and stands just 32 points away from being NKU's all-time leading scorer. NKU also got solid performances from guards Tyler Sharpe (14 points 9-9 from the free throw line), and Jalen Tate (15 points, 2/3 from 3). The Norse struggled as a team from three tonight but still managed to overcome their struggles thanks to their free throw shooting and huge defense down the stretch including a few blocked shots from sophmore Center Chris Vogt.
Northern Kentucky extends their winning streak at BB&T Arena to 20 straight games with one more regular season game coming this Saturday at BB&T arena vs Cleveland St. Cleveland St. fell to 8-21 tonight after a loss to Wright St. NKU now stands at 21-7. Tip-off will be at 7:00 PM EST and is also senior night for Drew McDonald and graduate transfer Zaynah Robinson.
