The Darrin Horn era begins as the Northern Kentucky Norse defeated Division III Transylvania 71-45 Wednesday Night at BB&T Arena.
The Norse were led by their Star player Jalen Tate, who led all players with 22 points on 7-10 shooting, Tate also made it a focal point to get his teammates involved by adding 3 assists to his stat line. Tate set the presence for NKU defensively, by adding 3 steals of his own as well as being active on the glass totaling 5 rebounds.
Trevon Faulkner & Dantez Walton also helped offensively with Walton totaling (13) and Faulkner with (8). I was most impressed with Faulkner as he made it a mission to get his teammates involved through the use of pick n rolls, and dishing off to open shooters in the corner while Faulkner was driving throughout the lane. Faulkner finished with 4 assists for the night.
The Norse started slow, and turnovers were a theme for both NKU & Transylvania. Both teams started the game off in a full-court press with NKU capitalizing on their pressing efforts by forcing 14 turnovers in the first 20 minute half. The turnover theme would continue in the second half, as the Norse would score 31 points off 22 turnovers for the entire game.
Up next, the Norse kick off the season Next Tuesday, November 5th, with their home opener against UC Clermont. Tip-off is at 7:00.
