The NKU Norse won a tight one Saturday night, taking a victory over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 70-68. Marques Warrick lead all scorers and a huge comeback effort for the Norse scoring 22 points in the contest. Trey Robinson also chipped in 17 points along with 3 sequences in a row that helped the Norse seal the victory. Jalon Pipkins lead PFW with 16 points.
The first half of this ball game was as sloppy as they come with 19 total turnovers. Neither team could make any ground with 10 lead changes. PFW's Jarvis Walker had an incredible and-one sequence but missed the free throw at the buzzer giving the Mastodons a 29-27 lead at the end of the half.
PFW went on a 13-4 run early in the 2nd half to give the Mastodons their largest lead which was 11. Slowly but surely NKU's Marques Warrick traded baskets with PFW and eventually got some help towards the end from former local high school standout , Trey Robinson to cut the deficit down and take their first lead with 3:59 left in the game. The Norse fouled 2 three point shooters in a row however, PFW couldn't capitalize and the momentum swung back to NKU. With the game tied at 68 and 14.3 seconds left, Warrick drove into PFW's defense and sank a floater leaving 2.3 seconds on the clock. With a missed half court heave at the other end, NKU won in this stunning comeback victory.
The NKU Norse are now 5-4 for the season. Their next game will be Friday 1/8/20 at 7:00 p.m. against the Cleveland State Vikings.
